Imagine an auto-shop where the workers did not know how to use their tools. Unimaginably unproductive! Yet it is amazing how many knowledge workers cannot use their computers and applications properly. Not surprising! Applications change all the time, manuals are atrocious, and knowledge workers don't have the time for self study. Not to worry, we have the solution – personal trainers. The problem with classroom training is that lessons must be structured to suit ‘everyone’, and of course that doesn’t work. Some people nod off to sleep while others are left behind. By training in small groups of people (ideally less than four), we can ensure that the knowledge goes in. It may appear more expensive but it is not because people actually learn.
