General PC Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Most PCs run fine for quite some time, then gradually experience more problems and slow down. During this time, the hardware has not changed and the user seemingly has not done anything to promote this kind of problem. With this in mind the following steps should be undertaken as a guideline for keeping your PC in running order.

As these procedures have the potential to cause problems if not performed correctly, it is recommended that a full backup of critical data be obtained from the PC, prior to beginning these procedures. Further more, it is recommended that these procedures only be performed by trained support personnel.

1. Remove all non-business related applications
2. Check the Hard Disk(s) for errors
3. Check Hard Disk Space
4. Defragment the Hard Disk
5. Remove Background Bitmaps and Screen Savers
